When you use hot water to have a shower, wash up or do some laundry, you are using energy to heat that water. So, the more hot water you use on a daily basis, the higher your gas or electricity bill will be.

A water meter measures all of the water which flows into your home. If you have a smaller household i.e. an individual living in a one-bedroom house, you are more likely to see the benefits of having one installed.

Here is how you can use your water effectively, whilst saving money and reducing your carbon footprint.
Bathroom:
- Reduce the amount of time you are in the shower
- Switch to an eco showerhead
- Turn off the taps when you are not using them
- Use a water-efficient toilet flush


Kitchen:
- Use a washing-up bowl
- Fill up your dishwasher before turning it on
- Only boil the amount of water you will use
- Wash your clothes at 30°C
- Reduce how much you use the washing machine
- Fix leaks and dripping taps
