Understand your debt: What you need to know
There are three categories of debt you can fall into. The category your debt falls under will determine how serious the consequences could be.
Priority debts: Involves a debt where if it is not repaid the consequences faced as a result could be serious such as completing service, loss of your property, or imprisonment.
Non-priority debts: These are the kind of debts which are not considered a priority so are dealt with after your priority debts. It is still important to deal with these kind of debts, but if you could not pay the outstanding debt then the consequence is not as serious.
Square Peg debts: These are for the debts which do not fit into either the priority or non-priority debt categories. This could be as the type of debt you have obtained is due to your circumstances i.e. outstanding phone bill.
