Darren, 65 years old, was referred to We Are Group by Kingston Upon Thames Council to boost his digital skills and connectivity through our personalised Digital Skills Training. His story showcases the positive impact of building digital skills and confidence.
When Darren was introduced to our Digital Skills Training, he was honest about his fear of tech. He wasn't sure he could navigate the digital world. But our expert digital skills trainer, Madeleine, took Darren under her wing and made sure he felt comfortable every step of the way.
We provided Darren a tablet and a SIM card as part of the Digital Skills Training. The device helped Darren unlock a world of digital possibilities. Filled with useful apps, the tablet became Darren's bridge to the online world and digital confidence.
Madeleine's training sessions were built around Darren's needs, guiding him through each step. The focus was on skills that felt comfortable to Darren, empowering him to learn at his own pace. Starting with the basics, Darren learnt how set up the device, create a secure passcode, and navigate the tablet. Throughout the session, he also learnt how to access the internet to browse websites, shop online, and pay bills online.
Darren himself said, "I feel more confident using the tablet now.“
After the training, Darren incorporated his new digital skills into his daily life with ease. The tablet became a handy tool for him, especially for emailing friends and family.
His newfound digital skills also boosted his social connectivity. By regularly emailing friends and family, he strengthened his relationships and was able to keep in contact with people who lived further afield. This is a huge advantage of our Digital Skills Training – it brings people closer together, virtually.
