We Are Group has launched a new training programme in partnership with the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames (RBK). The programme is aimed at empowering unemployed residents of RBK through tailored digital skills training. Whilst boosting confidence and capability, the programme is designed to equip participants with essential digital skills that are increasingly necessary to access and partake in today’s job market.
Funded by the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the programme has two primary aims:
- To support unemployed residents of RBK to overcome barriers to work by providing cohesive, local, and tailored digital skills training.
- To support RBK residents furthest from the labour market through access to digital.
Beginning in June 2024, We Are Group will offer personalised, face-to-face training sessions for local residents. Each participant is entitled to up to three 2-hour sessions, which will be conducted in a community setting selected by the participant, ensuring comfort and accessibility.
The training content is meticulously crafted to be learner-centric, focusing on the pace and unique needs of each participant. The training modules include:
- Introduction to the Internet and Online Safety
- Effective Device Settings and App Management
- Navigation Skills for PC, Keyboard, Mouse, Menus, and Desktop
- Mastery of Desktop or Home Screen
- Managing Files, Folders, Shortcuts, and Apps
- Email Basics
- Utilising Online Forms and Shopping Services
- Introduction to Word Processing
- CV Writing and Job Search Techniques
- Social Media Utilisation
- Basics of Video Conferencing
- Digital Money Management
Upon completion of the training, participants will not only gain crucial digital skills that enhance their employability and development prospects, but will also be connected to ongoing support and resources. We Are Group will refer graduates to the “Learn My Way” portal for further learning opportunities, as well as provide information about RBK-specific skills and employment websites, career counselling services, and the National Careers Service to facilitate their journey toward employment.
Cameron King, Skills and Employment Programme Lead at Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames, said:
“RBK is excited to partner with We Are Group again to support Borough residents to access personalised digital skills training and support, devices, and data to better access vital digital community services or explore employment and training pathways.
We commissioned We Are Group based on the impactful and supportive outcomes achieved from the Lloyds Banking Group funded programme during 2023-24. RBK is committed to helping residents overcome connectivity or skills access barriers, and We Are Group offers our residents a person centred and holistic approach to training, advice and guidance.”
Jonathan Prew, Managing Director at We Are Group, commented on the partnership:
“We are committed to reducing digital exclusion and empowering community members through targeted, effective training. By equipping participants with these essential digital skills, we are opening doors to new opportunities and enhancing their employability in an increasingly digital world.
We are delighted to be working with the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames for a second time following the immense success of the RBK Digital Inclusion Project in 2023.”
This initiative is expected to make a significant social impact in the Kingston Upon Thames area by enhancing individual skill sets and employability and by fostering greater community engagement and digital inclusivity.
